StupidVideos.com

Main Post:

Forgive me if this doesn’t quite fall into the criteria of lost media but does anyone remember stupidvideos.com? It was popular in the early and mid-2000s as a precursor to YouTube and for a young lad like myself who wasn’t allowed on YouTube, Stupid Videos was where I went for online entertainment. While the more popular videos from that site have been preserved on YouTube (including the incredibly nostalgic jingle that would play before each video) most of the videos that were uploaded to the site are now lost as the site shut down in 2016.

The Way Back Machine gives us a look into the site during it’s hay day but once again none of the videos are viewable and on top of that very few YouTubers have delved into the site in general, with Cactus Malpractice uploading a farewell video to the site which sits currently at 12k views. I specifically remember going on to the site to watch lego stop motion videos that I would die to view again and relive some amazing childhood memories. Finding some archive or backup of the site would surely bring back some great nostalgia for thousands of people as I’m sure for many, myself included, the site was one of their first experiences at watching videos online.

Thanks guys!

Top Comment: I know of it because another interest of mine besides lost media is true crime stuff, and a particularly online killer I’m interested in had a stupidvideos profile. Never really delved that deep into it. I think that website would perhaps have been too large to have a proper archive of everything on it. Are there any specific creators you recall/ are interested in seeing videos from again? That’s probably more feasible to find than a backup of the entire website.

Shazam doesn’t work. Honestly would be a miracle if anyone here knew it.

These dumb rich European, Asian or whatever family YouTube videos.

Main Post:

I hate them. They are so annoying. How do I keep these things from popping up on YouTube? I can’t handle it anymore. They make Blippi seem normal and good.

Top Comment: It's very easy. You stop using YouTube. It's full of garbage content. YouTube is one step above the brain rot that is TikTok and way below anything pretending to be even remotely appropriate for a child.

Shame you don't have a 2-wire system, they're super easy to upgrade. Are you able to swap out the external panel as well as the internal one?

If so I'd suggest installing a Bticino 2wire kit with a Classe100X (or Classe300 Eos if you're a baller) you won't be able to maintain the backplate but you'll have a much more future proofed and capable system.

You may need to add a relay to your gates mortice or maglock if you can't already unlock it from the ABB panel.

Dumb video intercom 2 smart

Main Post:

I have searched online on many forums, but can not find something similar to what i want.

I live in an apartment and have a video intercom. It is from the brand Comelit, model Genius. See pictures off the device.

What i want is to have this thing work like something like a ring doorbell for example. Optimal would be if i would receive an notification on my phone, with the live feed if i open the app and a talk back option. Thia last one is maybe tricky, but i think the video feed should be possible to receive on the phone.

I am a bit technical but not really that much. I know that you can do this with something like a raspberry pi and that kind off stuff. But i want to keep it simply and clean as possible. I can solder that is not really a problem, but online i see only solutions which does not completely fit my idea.

I was thinking about maybe using something like a esp board (never used 1, and i don't know if i can write something for it, or maybe someone can help out) But this one seemed the least headach, because onboard wifi and camera input. I don't know but does someone know how to, or has a simply better idea etc?

Thanx for the replies in advance.

Still Image From video Vs. Actual Picture? Dumb Question?

Main Post:

Hi guys. Lately, instead of taking multiple pictures and not getting one I like, I just turn the video mode on, and export a still of an area I like from that video. It comes out good, but I'm wondering, is the quality doing this worse? Kind of a stupid question I suppose. Any answers/advice are appreciated!

Top Comment:

Size / resolution is always worse pulling from video opposed to using a phone mode (using a 4k / 2k video mode will lessen this).

However, you will often find a better outcome pulling from video in action with low light scenarios. Because a 24/30 fps video will always record at those frame rates, whereas a photo mode will try and adjust the exposure time to get enough light... so it will result in a blurry photo. The video will be dark, but often able to recovery some of the detail in a screen shot with some editing.

The best scenario is well lit photo mode.

Next is well lit video.

Then poor light video.

Poor light photos are only possible to recover if both the camera and subject are still.
